70th Anniversary – February 3, 2021

President Harry S. Truman arrived on the campus of Temple University on February 3, 1951, to unveil a 20-foot Nils Hogner mural depicting the story of the Four Chaplains’ heroic acts on the morning of February 3, 1943. The mural shows them on the deck of the U.S.A.T. Dorchester as it sank into the cold Atlantic, removing their own life jackets and giving them to four remaining passengers, in simultaneous heroic acts of selfless service. The Chapel of Four Chaplains looks forward to welcoming visitors in 2021 to the Navy Yard chapel to view this mural in person.

For information on Chapel events, contact Bill Kaemmer, Executive Director, Chapel of Four Chaplains at 515-554-4836 or [email protected].
