October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month!
Dear DVVC members,
As we begin the Autumn season, many member organizations adjust their routines or services in concert with the change in our veterans’ changing schedules – a return to the school year, changing temperatures, and shorter days.
If the seasonal transition is piquing your curiosity about services available to veterans and outreach events to promote your organization, I encourage you to look into the Bucks County Veterans Benefits Expo from 12:30-4:00 pm on 6 October at the Parx East Racetrack Building in Bensalem, and the Montgomery County Veterans Resource Fair at the Montgomery County Human Services Center in Norristown on 10 October from 10am-Noon.
Mini Stand-downs are held monthly in Montgomery County and Berks County. Our elected officials are also regularly hosting resource fairs for veterans.
DVVC will hold a hybrid quarterly program entitled Preventing Homelessness in the Veteran Community on Friday, 20 October at 9:00 am at Camden Community College – Camden Campus and on Zoom. Please plan to attend and hear our distinguished panel discuss the state of the fight against veteran homelessness. RSVP for the Zoom link and/or directions.
A strength of our organization of organizations is that we amplify each other’s messaging. When I connect with fellow veteran-serving offices on our area campuses, engage with the veteran entrepreneur network, or participate in veteran-focused professional and social gatherings, I am able to share about the other events and services available to our community through your organizations. I encourage you to be a force multiplier for veteran support. DVVC is another reason Philly is a great place for vets!
Yours in service,
Hank Gillen
