NEWS FROM THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Greetings to the members of the Delaware Valley Veterans Consortium! Thank you to all who organized and participated in the July quarterly meeting addressing End of Life Care. I certainly learned a lot about a topic that, unfortunately, is painful to think about, but a little planning beforehand can alleviate a lot of stress at the time of a loved one’s passing. You can access the slides and video here and here.
As the chairman of DVVC, I want to address a critical topic to the continued success and growth of our Community Veterans Engagement Board: elections of Executive Committee members. Nancy Isserman has been my right-hand person for the past four years, and because of our by-laws must give up her seat. We also have two member-at-Large vacancies, meaning we have three positions on the executive Committee to fill for the coming year.
If you like the way DVVC has been operating, I encourage you to run for one of these vacancies. If, however, you do not like the way DVVC has been operating, then……run for one of these vacancies! The Executive Committee is always open to new ideas and perspectives, and new Executive Committee members are critical to DVVC’s impact on the community.
I know that a challenge all of us has is time, and you may be thinking “I don’t have time for DVVC meetings.” That is a valid concern, but the time commitment is limited: one hour a week, an Executive Committee in-person meeting every quarter, and then additional work as you see fit in terms of planning quarterly meetings and interfacing with DVVC Committees (who plan and execute quarterly meetings, run our marketing initiatives, and the vet new members organizations and supporters). We understand that volunteering for DVVC is secondary to our paying jobs, so missing Executive Committee meetings is not the end of the world. If you have further questions about Executive Committee membership, please do not hesitate to email me at hugolentze@gmail.com
DVVC has grown and become more impactful over time due to the time and effort that volunteers put into the work we do. We have a lot of people who work behind the scenes, but we also need leadership to provide a way forward for DVVC. The Executive Committee provides that leadership: please volunteer for an Executive Committee position, and help us to make DVVC even better in the future!
